HIGH CAPACITY MAGAZINES
Effective the morning of September 14th, 2004, the United
States Federal Government ban on the sale of high capacity magazines
was lifted. Residents of those States that do not have a State or
Municipal law prohibiting the purchase or possession of high
capacity magazines will now be able to purchase current production
high capacity magazines.
With the sunset of the previous high capacity magazine ban, it is now also legal for civilians to purchase and possess high capacity magazines previously marked with restrictive wording such as "For Law Enforcement Use
Only".
Some states and municipalities continue to retain limits on civilian magazine capacity as follows:
- California (CA) - No more than 10 rounds
- Hawaii (HI) - No more than 10 rounds
- Illinois (IL) - No more than 12 rounds to
Chicago Metropolitan Area
- Maryland (MD) - No more than 20 rounds
- Massachusetts (MA) - No more than 10
rounds
- New Jersey (NJ) - No more than 15 rounds
- New York (NY) - No more than 10 rounds
- Ohio (OH) - No more than
10 rounds to Teledo Metropolitan Area
Most firearms that come standard with high capacity magazines are offered with a 10-round magazine as well. Please ensure that when ordering, you choose the appropriate magazine to comply with your State
and Local Laws.
Cool Hand Luke LLC and coolhandlukefirearms.com will not
ship high capacity magazines to individuals if their
state/jurisdiction prohibits the high capacity magazine. When
shipping a firearm with a high capacity magazine, we will ship the
items to the firearms transfer dealer. It is then up to the transfer
dealer to ensure compliance with law. For example, a police officer
purchasing a firearm may be allowed to possess the high capacity
magazine.
